Finally – PPC G5 Owners Can Upgrade Their Video Cards!

Filed under: Announcements — Scott @ 12:32 am

This is a long-awaited development in the Aperture community. Because Aperture makes extensive use of the GPU, the video card plays a big part in the acceptability of the Aperture user experience. And for some time now, PPC G5 users have been unhappy because there was no simple solution to upgrading their video cards. Well that’s about to change.

Apple PPC G5 owners rejoice! You can finally upgrade your video cards. ATI (now a subsidiary of AMD) announced the X1900 G5 Mac Edition for PCI-e equipped Macs (i.e. Dual-core G5’s). The card contains a X1900 GT processing core and has 256 MB of VRAM with two dual-link DVI ports for support of two 30″ Apple Cinema Displays. The card also contains S-Video output for connecting TVs sporting the connector.

The card is $350 and is now shipping.
